Description:  The Ysleta del Sur Pueblo Health and Wellness Medical Clinic is the new construction of a 78,100 SF healthcare facility which will include: 1) a 54,000 SF medical clinic; 2) a 3,375 SF community meeting room; 3) a 525 SF community kitchen; and 4) 20,200 SF of office space for the relocated Ysleta del Sur Pueblo (“YDSP”) Department of Health Services administrative offices. The Project is located in a federally designated Medically Underserved Area, and Mental Health, Dental Health and Primary Care Health Professional Shortage Area.

The Project will provide primary, dental, mental and behavioral healthcare services, as well as a new in-house pharmacy and laboratory. To treat the whole person, the outpatient behavioral health department will be a consolidated service including mental health, social services, and alcohol and substance abuse.

YDSP’s existing 12,290 SF medical facility was originally constructed in 1976 as a daycare center. Both the population and demand for health services have grown such that this existing space is now beyond its capacity. Constricted exam rooms, no viable waiting room, and an inability to add needed providers and services have capped volumes, causing tribal members to either put off needed care, drive 128 miles to the next closest Indian Health Service facility, or seek healthcare elsewhere in El Paso where cost can be an obstacle.

The Project will allow YDSP to increase patient visits from 8,576 in 2019 to an estimated 38,000 patient visits annually once fully operational which is 4.5 times increase in patient visit capacity.

Ysleta del Sur Pueblo is a U.S. federally recognized Native American tribe and sovereign nation, located in El Paso County, TX. Ysleta del Sur Pueblo is located thirteen miles from downtown El Paso and has been home to the Tigua people for over 300 years. YDSP is an active partner in the greater El Paso region and its government and business contributions support the Pueblo as well as the greater El Paso economy.
