Description: College of the Desert, Indio Campus Expansion (“COD Indio Expansion”) consists of a 67,000 square foot. three-story state-of-the-art education center building. Leveraging the extraordinary success of using Border Communities NMTCs in 2014 to open an Education Center in Indio, CA, the new COD Indio Expansion is now more than doubling the size of this innovative education center that primarily serves low-income students.
COD Indio Expansion includes an enlarged Student Success Center, Public Safety facilities and Student Health Offices. It will significantly expand the instructional facilities with new classrooms, science laboratories, lecture halls, computer labs and a Maker Space, expanded faculty office space, a student dining commons and study spaces. Academic programming will include: Criminal Justice, General Education/Transfer, Education and Early Childhood Education, Business/Entrepreneurship, Psychology, a Pre-Law Advocacy Certificate, and others.
COD Indio Expansion will increase student capacity by 6,000 students annually so the Indio campus as whole will serve 10,000 students annually of which 90% are low-income persons. Additionally, College of the Desert students can use their student ID card as a free bus pass.
College of the Desert provides comprehensive general educational (2-year degrees), career and technical education (non-credit or certificates), and transfer preparation. College of the Desert offers 100+ degree and certificate programs at several locations. With a focus on improving access to higher education throughout the Coachella Valley, critical educational partnerships, such as those with three local unified school districts has allowed the College to offer classes on high school campuses. College of the Desert collaborates with educational and workforce partners as a member institution in the Desert Regional Adult Education Consortium, which provides programs, services, and opportunities for a diverse population of adult students.
